Marking-scheme solution
The assumptions of Maslow’s need hierarchy theory are:
(i)
People’s behaviour is based on their needs. Satisfaction of such
needs influences their behaviour.
(ii)
People’s needs are in hierarchical order, starting from basic
needs to higher level needs.
(iii)
A satisfied need no longer can motivate a person; only next
higher level need can motivate him.
(iv)
A person moves to the next higher level of the hierarchy only
when the lower need is satisfied.
Psychological barrier:
(i)
Premature evaluation i.e. evaluating the meaning of the message
before the completion of the message may lead to prejudices against
communication.
(ii)
Lack of attention i.e. non-listening of the message acts a major
psychological barrier.
(iii)
Loss by transmission and poor retention may act as a barrier to
communication.
(iv)
Distrust between communicator and communicatee acts as a
communication barrier.
