Formal communication
§ Formal communication is the communication that takes place
through official channels designed in the organisation chart.
§ It may be horizontal or vertical.
Informal communication
§ Informal communication is the communication that takes place
without following the formal lines of communication.
§ It is generally referred to as grapevine because it spreads in all
directions without any regard to the level of authority.
Organisational barrier:
(i)
Organisational policy, implicit or explicit is not supportive to
free flow of communication, it may hamper effectiveness of
communication.
(ii)
Rigid Rules and regulations may delay communication.
(iii)
Status of the superior may not allow his subordinates to express
their feelings freely.
(iv)
Complexity in organization structure leads to delayed and
distorted communication.
(v)
Lack of organizational facilities like frequent meetings,
suggestion box etc. may discourage free flow of communication.
