(i)
Performance Appraisal
It means evaluating an employee’s current or past performance as
against certain predetermined standards. The employee is also
expected to know what the standards are and the superior is to provide
the employee feedback on his/her performance.
The performance appraisal process, therefore, will include defining
the job, appraising performance and providing feedback.
(ii)
Promotion and Career Planning
Promotion refers to being placed in positions of increased
responsibility. They usually means more pay, responsibility and job
satisfaction.
Managers need to design activities to serve employees’ long term
interests also and they must encourage employees to grow and realise
their full potential.
Identify and explain the two sources of recruitment which
reduce the induction of fresh talent in the organisation and cannot

Transfers
It involves shifting of an employee from one job to another, one
department to another or from one shift to another without a
substantive change in responsibilities and status of the employees.
(ii)
Promotions
It refers to shifting an employee to a higher position, carrying higher
responsibilities, facilities, status and pay.
