Marking-scheme solution
(i)
Unity of Command
§ The principle of unity of command states that each employee
in an organisation should receive orders from and be
responsible to only one superior.
§ There should be one and only one boss for every individual
employee. It prevents confusion regarding tasks to be done.
Order
§ The principle of order states that ‘A place for everything
(everyone) and everything (everyone) in its (her/his) place’
i.e. people and materials must be in suitable places at
appropriate time for maximum efficiency.
§ If there is a fixed place for everything and it is present there,
then there will be no hindrance in the activities of business/
factory. This will lead to increased productivity and
efficiency.
Scientific Decision
§ Principles of management help in taking scientific decisions
because the decisions based on principles are free from bias
and prejudice and emphasise logic rather than blind faith.
§ Scientific decisions based on principles are timely, realistic
and subject to measurement and evaluation. They are based
on the objective assessment of the situation.
(ii)
Fulfilling Social Responsibility
§ Increased awareness of the public forces businesses to fulfill
their social responsibilities. Principles of management help
in doing so by responding to the demands of the public.
§ The interpretation of the principles also assumes newer and
contemporary meanings with the change in time.
Management theory and management principles have also
evolved in response to this.
