Explain the following features of 'Management':

Management is a goal-oriented process.

Management is a group activity.

• (i) Management is a goal-oriented process. An organisation has a set of basic goals which are the basic reason for its existence. These should be simple and clearly • stated. Management unites the efforts of different individuals in the organisation towards achieving these goals. • (ii) Management is a group activity. An organisation is a collection of diverse individuals with different needs working towards fulfilling common • organisational goal. This requires team work and coordination of individual effort in a common direction.Features of principles of management: • (i) Universal applicability: The principles of management are intended to apply to all types of organisations, business as well as non-business, small • as well as large, etc. However, the extent of their applicability would vary with the nature of the organisation, business activity, scale of operations, etc. • (i) Flexible The principles of management are flexible as they are not • rigid prescriptions, which have to be followed absolutely. They can be modified by the manager when the situation so demands. They give the manager enough discretion to do so.
