One of the major approaches of crop improvement programme is Artificial Hybridisation. Explain the steps involved in making sure that only the desired pollen grain pollinate the stigma of a bisexual flower by a plant breeder.
Marking-scheme solution
Emasculation : Removal of the anther from the flower bud before the anther dehisces.
Bagging : Covering the emasculated flower with a bag of suitable size to prevent contamination of its stigma with unwanted pollen.
Dusting of desired pollen on the stigma and re-bagging.
