A circular coil of wire having $\displaystyle 200$ turns, each of radius $\displaystyle 4.0$ cm is placed in a horizontal plane. It carries a current of $\displaystyle 0 \cdot 40 \mathrm{~A}$ in clockwise direction. Find the magnitude and direction of the magnetic field at the centre of the coil.
Marking-scheme solution
$\displaystyle B=\frac{\mu_{0} N I}{2 r}$
$\displaystyle =\frac{4 \pi \times 10^{-7} \times 200 \times 0.40}{2 \times 4 \times 10^{-2}}$
$\displaystyle =1.256 \times 10^{-3} \mathrm{~T}$
Direction is perpendicularly inward into the horizontal plane.
