A sharp decline in population growth rate in China as compared to India in late $\displaystyle 1970$’s was mainly due to implementation of ‘one child policy’.
As a result, China has witnessed a decline in the growth rate of population.
Consequently, the proportion of elderly people has risen in comparison to younger ones.
