Solve the following system of equations algebraically : $\displaystyle 37 x+63 y=137$ $\displaystyle 63 x+37 y=163$
Marking-scheme solution
Adding and subtracting the given equations, we get
\[x+y=3 \ldots \text{(i)}
\]
\[\text{and } x-y=1 \ldots \text{(ii)}
\]
Solving (i) and (ii), we get
\[x=2, y=1
\]
