State Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. Briefly describe two methods for producing induced emf.
Marking-scheme solution
The magnitude of the induced emf in a circuit is equal to the time rate of change of magnetic flux through the circuit.
Magnetic flux $\displaystyle =\phi=\mathrm{BA} \cos \theta$, $\displaystyle \varepsilon=\dfrac{-d \phi}{d t}$
Methods of producing induced emf (any two):
(i)
By changing the magnetic field with time.
(ii)
By changing the area of the coil with time in the magnetic field.
(iii)
By changing the angle between the magnetic field and the normal to the coil with time, i.e. by rotating the coil in the magnetic field.
