How is an emf generated by a solar cell due to the three basic processes involved ? Explain.
Marking-scheme solution
The three basic processes for generation of e.m.f. by a solar cell are:
(i) Generation of e-h pairs due to light (with $\displaystyle \mathrm{h} v>\mathrm{Eg}_{\mathrm{g}}$ ) close to the junction.
(ii) Separation of $\displaystyle e^{-} s$ and holes due to electric field of the depletion region.
(iii) Collection : $\displaystyle e^{-}$reaching the n-side are collected by the front contact & holes reaching p-side are collected by back contact.
Thus, p-side becomes positive and n-side becomes negative giving rise to photo voltage.Dual Nature of Radiation and MatterElectron EmissionUnderstandvery_short_answermedium
