(a)
Depict the variation of the potential energy of a pair of nucleons with the separation between them.
(b)
Imagine the fission of a $\displaystyle { }_{26}^{56} \mathrm{Fe}$ into two equal fragments of $\displaystyle { }_{13}^{28} \mathrm{Al}$ nucleus. Is the fission energetically possible ? Justify your answer by working out Q value of the process. Given : $\displaystyle \mathrm{m}\left({ }_{26}^{56} \mathrm{Fe}\right)=55 \cdot 93494 \mathrm{u}, \mathrm{m}\left({ }_{13}^{28} \mathrm{Al}\right)=27 \cdot 98191 \mathrm{u}$.
