Define the term 'amniocentesis'. Why has the government imposed a statutory ban in spite of its importance in the medical field ?

• Amniocentesis is test or procedure where some foetal cells in the amniotic fluid
is analysed for certain genetic disorders.
• Sex determination is done with the help of amniocentesis which may be
misused for female foeticide / to legally check increasing menace of female foeticide.
