Solve the following system of equations algebraically: $\displaystyle 30 x+44 y=10 ; 40 x+55 y=13$
Marking-scheme solution
Given equations can be rewritten as
\[120 x+176 y=40 \ldots \text{(i)}
\]
\[120 x+165 y=39 \ldots \text{(ii)}
\]
Subtracting to get \(\displaystyle y=\frac{1}{11}\)
Substituting to get \(\displaystyle x=\frac{1}{5}\)
