Statement (I) : Oxygen being the first member of group $\displaystyle 16$ exhibits only -$\displaystyle 2$ oxidation state.
Statement (II) : Down the group $\displaystyle 16$ stability of +$\displaystyle 4$ oxidation state decreases and +$\displaystyle 6$ oxidation state increases.
