Find the sum of the order and the degree of the differential equation : \[\left(x+\frac{\mathrm{dy}}{\mathrm{dx}}\right)^{2}=\left(\frac{\mathrm{dy}}{\mathrm{dx}}\right)^{2}+1 \]
Marking-scheme solution
Given differential equation can be written as
\[x^{2}+\left(\frac{d y}{d x}\right)^{2}+2 x \frac{d y}{d x}=\left(\frac{d y}{d x}\right)^{2}+1
\]
i.e. \(\displaystyle x^{2}+2 x \frac{d y}{d x}=1 ;\) Order \(\displaystyle =1\), degree \(\displaystyle =1\)
Sum of order and degree \(\displaystyle =1+1=2\)
