OR(b) (i) Because oxidation of propanal involves cleavage of a C–H bond, which is weaker than the C–C bond of propanone.
(ii)
On heating with NaOH and $\displaystyle \mathrm{I_2}$, acetophenone gives a yellow precipitate of iodoform whereas benzophenone does not.
