(i) For plantation workers in Assam, freedom meant the right to move freely in and out of the confined space in which they were enclosed.
(ii) Plantation workers defied the Inland Immigration Act.
(iii) They interpreted Swaraj in their own ways.
(iv) They also related themselves with Swatantra Bharat and started relating them with all India agitation.
(v) They believed that Gandhi Raj was coming and everyone would be given land in their own village.
(vi) Stranded on the way by a railway and steamers strike plantation workers were caught up by the police and were brutally beaten up.
