the number of individuals decreases as we move from lower trophic level to higher trophic level, and

the flow of energy is unidirectional.
Marking-scheme solution
(a) Since the \(\displaystyle 10 \%\) energy is available from lower trophic level to higher trophic level therefore the number of individuals decreases.
(b) The energy captured by the autotrophs cannot revert back to the solar input / energy once received by herbivores cannot come back to autotrophs
