(a)Define one volt potential difference between two points in an electric field.(b)Draw a schematic diagram of an electric circuit of a cell of $\displaystyle 1 \cdot 5 \mathrm{~V}$, $\displaystyle 5 \Omega$ and $\displaystyle 10 \Omega$ resistor and a plug key, all connected in series. Calculate the current drawn from the cell when the key is closed.
(a)
Define one volt potential difference between two points in an electric field.
(b)
Draw a schematic diagram of an electric circuit of a cell of $\displaystyle 1 \cdot 5 \mathrm{~V}$, $\displaystyle 5 \Omega$ and $\displaystyle 10 \Omega$ resistor and a plug key, all connected in series. Calculate the current drawn from the cell when the key is closed.
Marking-scheme solution
(a)
It is the amount of work done to bring one coulomb charge from one point to another in the field is $\displaystyle 1$ joule. \(\displaystyle / \mathrm{lV}=\frac{1 J}{1 C}\)
(b)
\[\begin{gathered}
\text { Current }=\frac{\text { Potential difference }}{\text { Resistance }}=\frac{1.5 \mathrm{~V}}{(\mathbf{5} \boldsymbol{\Omega}+\mathbf{1 0} \boldsymbol{\Omega})} \\
=\frac{1.5 \mathrm{~V}}{15 \Omega}=0.1 \mathrm{~A}
\end{gathered}
