Using graphical method, solve the following system of equations : $\displaystyle 3 x-2 y=10$ and $\displaystyle 5 x+3 y=4$If three times the greater of two numbers is divided by the smaller one, we get $\displaystyle 4$ as the quotient and $\displaystyle 3$ as the remainder. Also, if seven times the smaller number is divided by greater one, we get $\displaystyle 5$ as the quotient and $\displaystyle 1$ as the remainder. Find the numbers.
Using graphical method, solve the following system of equations : $\displaystyle 3 x-2 y=10$ and $\displaystyle 5 x+3 y=4$
If three times the greater of two numbers is divided by the smaller one, we get $\displaystyle 4$ as the quotient and $\displaystyle 3$ as the remainder. Also, if seven times the smaller number is divided by greater one, we get $\displaystyle 5$ as the quotient and $\displaystyle 1$ as the remainder. Find the numbers.
Marking-scheme solution
Solution is \(\displaystyle \mathrm{x}=2, \mathrm{y}=-2\)
Let the smaller number be x and the greater number be y
\[\begin{aligned}
& 3 y=4 x+3 \ldots \text { (i) } \\
& 7 x=5 y+1 \ldots \text { (ii) }
\end{aligned}
\]
Solving (i) and (ii), we get
\[x=18, y=25
\]
∴ Smaller number is $\displaystyle 18$
and greater number is $\displaystyle 25$
