Find the zeroes of the polynomial $\displaystyle \mathrm{r}(x)=4 x^{2}+3 x-1$. Hence, write a polynomial whose zeroes are reciprocal of the zeroes of polynomial $\displaystyle \mathrm{r}(x)$.
Marking-scheme solution
\(\displaystyle \mathrm{p}(x)=4 x^{2}+3 x-1\)
Zeroes are \(\displaystyle \frac{1}{4},-1\)
New zeroes $\displaystyle 4$, -$\displaystyle 1$
Sum of new zeroes \(\displaystyle =4+(-1)=3\)
Product of zeroes \(\displaystyle =4 \times(-1)=-4\)
Required polynomial is \(\displaystyle \left(x^{2}-3 x-4\right)\)
