Find the greatest number which divides $\displaystyle 85$ and $\displaystyle 72$ leaving remainders $\displaystyle 1$ and $\displaystyle 2$ respectively.
Marking-scheme solution
We have to find HCF of \(\displaystyle 85-1=84\) and \(\displaystyle 72-2=70\).
HCF of $\displaystyle 84$ and \(\displaystyle 70=14\)
