Aarush bought $\displaystyle 2$ pencils and $\displaystyle 3$ chocolates for ₹ $\displaystyle 11$ and Tanish bought $\displaystyle 1$ pencil and $\displaystyle 2$ chocolates for ₹ $\displaystyle 7$ from the same shop. Represent this situation in the form of a pair of linear equations. Find the price of $\displaystyle 1$ pencil and $\displaystyle 1$ chocolate, graphically.
Marking-scheme solution
Let the cost of $\displaystyle 1$ pencil be ₹ x
\(\displaystyle 2 \mathrm{x}+3 \mathrm{y}=11\)
\(\displaystyle \mathrm{x}+2 \mathrm{y}=7\)
\(\displaystyle \mathrm{x}=1, \mathrm{x}=3\)
∴ Cost of $\displaystyle 1$ pencil = ₹ $\displaystyle 1$ and Cost of $\displaystyle 1$ chocolate = ₹ $\displaystyle 3$
