To know the resistance $\displaystyle G$ of a galvanometer by half deflection method, a battery of emf $\displaystyle V_E$ and resistance $\displaystyle R$ is used to deflect the galvanometer by angle $\displaystyle \theta$. If a shunt of resistance $\displaystyle S$ is needed to get half deflection then $\displaystyle G, R$ and $\displaystyle S$ are related by the equation :
