Explain how Goods and Services Tax (GST) has simplified the multiplicity of taxes imposed on goods and services.
(b)
State the meaning of Commercialisation of Agriculture.
Marking-scheme solution
(a)
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a single, comprehensive indirect tax. Under GST, tax is levied on the value added at each stage of the production and distribution of goods and services. It has replaced a number of indirect taxes thus, promotes uniformity in taxation, eliminates the cascading effect of taxes, and improves the ease of doing business in the country.
(b)
Commercialisation of agriculture implies production of crops for the market rather than for self-consumption.
