Assertion (A) : The $\displaystyle \mathrm{pK}_{\mathrm{a}}$ of $\displaystyle \mathrm{O}_{2} \mathrm{~N}-\mathrm{CH}_{2}-\mathrm{COOH}$ is lower than that of $\displaystyle \mathrm{CH}_{3}-\mathrm{COOH}$. Reason $\displaystyle (R)$ : $\displaystyle -\mathrm{NO}_{2}$ group shows electron withdrawing effect which increases the acidic character of $\displaystyle \mathrm{O}_{2} \mathrm{~N}-\mathrm{CH}_{2}-\mathrm{COOH}$.
