Nandini and Reva were partners in a firm sharing profits and losses in the ratio of $\displaystyle 5$:23. Nandini withdrew the following amounts from the firm for her personal use during the year ending 31st March $\displaystyle 2025$ : (i) For the first five months, she withdrew ₹ $\displaystyle 2,000$ at the end of each month. (ii) For the remaining months, she withdrew ₹ $\displaystyle 3,000$ at the beginning of each month. Interest on drawings was to be charged @ $\displaystyle 6$% p.a. The books of the firm are closed on $\displaystyle 31$" March every year. Calculate interest on Nandini's drawings for the year ending 31st March, 2025.
Marking-scheme solution
Calculation of Nandini interest on drawings:
Interest on drawings = Total amount of drawings x Average time period x Rate
$\displaystyle 12$ $\displaystyle 100$
Average time period:
For first five months = $\displaystyle 11$+$\displaystyle 7$ =$\displaystyle 9$ months
$\displaystyle 2$ ………………………..……… ½
For remaining seven months = $\displaystyle 7$+$\displaystyle 1$ =$\displaystyle 4$ months
$\displaystyle 2$
Interest on drawings:
For first five months = $\displaystyle 10,000$ x $\displaystyle 6$ x $\displaystyle 9$ = ₹ $\displaystyle 450$ …………...……………. $\displaystyle 1$
$\displaystyle 100$ $\displaystyle 12$
For remaining seven months = $\displaystyle 21,000$ x $\displaystyle 6$ x $\displaystyle 4$ = ₹ $\displaystyle 420$ …………..………….. $\displaystyle 1$
$\displaystyle 100$ $\displaystyle 12$
Total interest on drawings = $\displaystyle 450$ + $\displaystyle 420$= ₹ $\displaystyle 870$ …………………………………… ½
Alternatively,
Interest on drawings = Sum of product Rate/$\displaystyle 100$ $\displaystyle 1$/$\displaystyle 12$
x x
Date Amount (₹) No. of Product (₹)
($\displaystyle 24$-$\displaystyle 25$) Withdrawn Months
Apr $\displaystyle 30$ $\displaystyle 2,000$ $\displaystyle 11$ $\displaystyle 22,000$
May $\displaystyle 30$ $\displaystyle 2,000$ $\displaystyle 10$ $\displaystyle 20,000$
June $\displaystyle 30$ $\displaystyle 2,000$ $\displaystyle 9$ $\displaystyle 18,000$
July $\displaystyle 31$ $\displaystyle 2,000$ $\displaystyle 8$ $\displaystyle 16,000$
Aug $\displaystyle 31$ $\displaystyle 2,000$ $\displaystyle 7$ $\displaystyle 14,000$
Sept $\displaystyle 1$ $\displaystyle 3,000$ $\displaystyle 7$ $\displaystyle 21,000$
Oct $\displaystyle 1$ $\displaystyle 3,000$ $\displaystyle 6$ $\displaystyle 18,000$
Nov $\displaystyle 1$ $\displaystyle 3,000$ $\displaystyle 5$ $\displaystyle 15,000$
Dec $\displaystyle 1$ $\displaystyle 3,000$ $\displaystyle 4$ $\displaystyle 12,000$
$\displaystyle 11$/$\displaystyle 2$
Jan $\displaystyle 1$ $\displaystyle 3,000$ $\displaystyle 3$ $\displaystyle 9,000$
Feb $\displaystyle 1$ $\displaystyle 3,000$ $\displaystyle 2$ $\displaystyle 6,000$
Mar $\displaystyle 1$ $\displaystyle 3,000$ $\displaystyle 1$ $\displaystyle 3,000$
$\displaystyle 1,74,000$
Interest on drawings =$\displaystyle 1,74,000$ x $\displaystyle 6$/$\displaystyle 100$ x $\displaystyle 1$/$\displaystyle 12$ = ₹ $\displaystyle 870$……
