How and why is an electric fuse used in an electric circuit ? Briefly describe its function.
Marking-scheme solution
An electric fuse is placed in series with the device.
Electric fuse is used to prevent the electric circuit from a possible damage by stopping the flow of unduly high electric current. If current larger than the specified value flows through the circuit, the fuse melts and breaks the electric circuit.
