All the face cards are removed from the pack of $\displaystyle 52$ cards and a card is drawn at random from the remaining cards. Find the probability that the card so drawn is
(i)
a spade.
(ii)
not an ace.
Marking-scheme solution
Remaining cards \(\displaystyle =52-12=40\)
(i) P (a spade) \(\displaystyle =\frac{10}{40}\) or \(\displaystyle \frac{1}{4}\)
(ii) \(\displaystyle \mathrm{P}\) (not an ace) \(\displaystyle =\frac{36}{40}\) or \(\displaystyle \frac{9}{10}\)
